Household Garbage Drop-Off Compactor - Available 24/7Household Garbage

Household garbage can be placed into the compactor located outside the fenced area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Open door of compactor with handle, place garbage into compactor, shut door to compactor and then press the green button on the front of the compactor and this will then compact all the garbage into the compactor and when done it's ready for next customer.

This container gets dumped at the Incinerator and it goes through the Materials Removal Facility.

Recycling Drop-Off BinSingle Stream (Mixed) Recyclables

Drop-off only - do not buy!

Mixed recyclables can be placed into blue roll-off recycling containers located outside the fenced area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please take all recyclables out of bags and place loosely into container. Items include:

  • Aluminum cans
  • Glass (mixed colors)
  • Paper (mixed news, office, magazines)
  • Plastic Containers (Number 1, Number 2, and Number 5)
  • Tin cans

Recycling Center Front GateCardboard

Please ensure that all cardboard is broken-down / flattened. Cardboard can be placed in the cardboard container located near the garbage compactor. If it is full, it can be placed in the blue roll-off recycling container also. 

The cardboard container is located just outside fence next to garbage compactor.

Appliances

Can accept residential appliances from Polk County residents at no charge during posted operational hours. Drop-off area for appliances is located inside the fenced area. Business and non-Polk appliances will be accepted for a charge of $5 per appliance.

Any part of a structure of a building, such as:

Demolition Drop-Off Area

Acceptable size loads include small pickup box loads and small trailers. Larger loads or multi loads will be sent to Landfill.

Metal Drop-Off AreaScrap Metals

Scrap metal are accepted from Polk County residents and businesses at the Transfer Station in Crookston and the Incinerator in Fosston (across from the Recycling Center). Scrap metal is consolidated and shipped to market for recycling. Scrap metal includes:

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Steel
  • Tin

Tires Drop-Off AreaTires

Tires can be accepted during posted operational hours at the Transfer Station in Crookston and the Recycling Center in Fosston. 

At no charge we will accept passenger vehicle tires, up to 8 per month with a max of 24 per year from Polk County residents. Businesses (including tire sales, vehicle sales, equipment sales, auto service businesses and salvage yards) and non-Polk County residents are not accepted at no charge. 

Tires over passenger vehicle size are accepted for a fee based upon size.

Oils, Paints, Batteries Drop-Off AreaUsed Oil / Filters

Used oil is collected at the Transfer Station in Crookston for residents and businesses of Polk County at no charge. Used oil filters are accepted from Polk County residents (not businesses) at both the Transfer Station in Crookston and the Recycling Center in Fosston at no charge. 

Polk County businesses may bring used oil filters to either site for a charge. 

The filters are crushed to separate the oil and metal. The metal is recycled and the oil is either burned to produce heat in approved incinerators or refined for further use.
